Ten Steps to be Ready for Jesus' Return: A Guide for Christians

Introduction

The second coming of Jesus Christ is a significant event that many Christians eagerly await. The Bible tells us that Jesus will return to earth to judge the living and the dead and to establish his kingdom on earth. However, no one knows when this event will happen, and it is essential to be prepared for it. Here are ten steps that Christians can take to be ready for when Jesus returns.

Step 1: Believe in Jesus Christ

The first step towards being ready for Jesus' return is to have faith in him. Jesus himself said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). Believing in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior are essential because it is through him that we have salvation and eternal life.

Step 2: Repent of your sins

Repentance is a critical part of the Christian faith. It involves confessing our sins to God and turning away from them. The Bible says, "Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord" (Acts 3:19). When we repent of our sins, we are acknowledging that we have sinned against God and are asking for his forgiveness.

Step 3: Obey God's commands

As Christians, we are called to obey God's commands. Jesus said, "If you love me, keep my commands" (John 14:15). We should strive to live our lives according to God's will and follow his teachings.

Step 4: Read and study the Bible

The Bible is God's word to us, and it is essential to read and study it regularly. The Bible says, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness" (2 Timothy 3:16). By reading and studying the Bible, we can learn more about God's will for our lives and how we can live in a way that pleases him.

Step 5: Pray regularly

Prayer is a crucial part of the Christian faith. Through prayer, we can communicate with God and ask for his guidance and help. The Bible says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Philippians 4:6).

Step 6: Attend church and fellowship with other believers

As Christians, we are called to gather together with other believers. The Bible says, "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another" (Hebrews 10:25). Attending church and fellowshipping with other believers can help us grow in our faith and encourage one another in our walk with God.

Step 7: Share the gospel with others

As Christians, we are called to share the gospel with others. Jesus said, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:19-20). Sharing the gospel with others is an essential part of fulfilling the Great Commission.

Step 8: Serve others

Serving others is an essential part of the Christian faith. The Bible says, "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms" (1 Peter 4:10). By serving others, we can demonstrate God's love to them and share the gospel in practical ways.

Step 9: Live a holy life

As Christians, we are called to live a holy life. The Bible says, "But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: 'Be holy, because I am holy'" (1 Peter 1:15-16). Living a holy life means striving to avoid sin and seeking to live in a way that honors God. It also means seeking to grow in our relationship with God and allowing the Holy Spirit to transform us from the inside out.

Step 10: Be prepared for the unexpected

Jesus warned his followers to be prepared for his return at any time. He said, "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour" (Matthew 25:13). Being prepared for the unexpected means living in a state of readiness, being alert and watchful, and being ready to meet Jesus at any moment. It also means being prepared to face challenges and trials that may come our way, knowing that God is with us and will help us through them.

Conclusion

In conclusion, being ready for Jesus' return requires a deep commitment to living a life that is pleasing to God. It involves believing in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, repenting of our sins, obeying God's commands, reading and studying the Bible, praying regularly, attending church and fellowshipping with other believers, sharing the gospel with others, serving others, living a holy life, and being prepared for the unexpected. By taking these steps, we can be ready for the day when Jesus returns and be confident in our salvation and eternal life with him. As the apostle, Paul said, "Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day--and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing" (2 Timothy 4:8).
